Learning concepts

This fun video Overview of e-Learning by Mohamed Amin Embi tells some concepts:

  • Open learning – is web provision for learners that gives them some control regarding to how they learn, where they learn, when they learn, and the pace which they learn.
  • Online learning – is one of mature learners spend at least some of their time online, working either directly over the Internet or on computers linked to global through the Intranet.
  • Distance learning – is the term usually apply to open learning, the text place from distance from the provider of learning materials.
  • E-learning – is largely synonymously with online learning and it’s necessarily computer-based learning, at least for most of the time.

Overview of e-learning experience 2011 – 10 papers

I found an overview of outputs from the JISC Learner Experiences of e-Learning programme (2004-2009).

I think it’s worth spending my holiday time to search and collect resources about e-learning experience in 2011.

The UK university services – Xmas e-cards

Why not send an electronic greeting in the season using the university services and saving paper?

There are e-cards sending services from some of the UK universities.

Timeline drawing tools

I wanted to draw a simple and nice timeline the other day. However, it’s not easy when I didn’t have a drawing tool and some template could use.

I tried a quick way – Google any handy tools.

Smartdraw appeared on the top. It looks excellent. I downloaded it. Free trail but you cannot really create a very usable timeline. This version only allows you to create year spans before 2008.

I quickly tried a couple of online tools. Not so successful.  Eventually, I tried the Timetoast. It’s easy to use, clear and simple. The only disappointing feature is that it does not show all events information in one screen. If I want to see all my events and timespans in one diagram, I have to use image editing tools to cut and re-form.

Digital literacy diagrams

I came across the book chapter “Origins and concepts of digital literacy” written by David Bawden. I was thinking to make this concept even more visible. Here are 10 graphic forms of digital literacy.

  • Digital Literacy from University of Bradford – Open Educational Resources for the Inclusive Curriculum (ORIC) project.

  • The diagram from a blog post 2011-2012 Looking ahead with Mediamama, originally from the Network Student Process and Tools: Taking Control and Responsibility for Learning by Wendy Drexler. (for K-12?)
